ServicesActive Release Technique

Active Release Technique is a patented state-of-the-art soft tissue system that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Problems like headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, knee problems and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently.

Injuries occur to persons in the work place and persons involved in sports, be it weekend or professional, where the range of motion is reduced. This occurs when the places of injury, repetitive motion, or inflammation leaves "adhesions" or dense tight scar tissue.

Active Release Technique is unlike any other therapy. ART, unlike other deep tissue techniques, lengthens the tissue in the same direction that muscle fibers naturally move. This is what stretches out the adhesions and causes healing. Being active also make ART different from other therapies. The patient participates in the session by moving the limbs to help release tension. Different from other forms of therapy, ART is not designed to be an ongoing treatment or preventive tool; it is done to heal a specific injury.

A published research from the University of California at San Diego found that 71% of patients reported improvement after four weeks of ART treatment. Many top athletes (Olympic along with NFL, NHL, and MLB) have found ART to heal their soft tissue injuries.

Freedom Physical Therapy Services is proud that our own Physical Therapist Ryan Gaynor is the only Physical Therapist in the area trained and certified to perform this technique.
